Episode 10: Get over the Devil's Dream [Count Devil introduced; how girl gate keepers' powers were awakened] [Brief summary] There was a huge explosion in the middle of the ocean. Shun was standing on top of the Gate Engine breathing. Shun finally did it --- he killed the Invaders without hesitation! Shun showed his thumbs up sign to Ruriko, telling her that he did it. People gather to the port to wait for Apollo 11's arrival. A parachute from the sky falls down, signaling the arrival of Apollo 11. That event happened on July 24, 1969. (Episode Title) Aboard YS-11, Ruriko remarked how Invaders changed their target: from petrochemical factory in Kawasaki to the Apollo complex. Ruriko wondered what would be Invaders' next target. Kaoru told Ruriko that with her and Shun's force, Invaders were a piece of cake. Ruriko noticed Shun was quietly staring at the small window, so she sat next to Shun. Ruriko then asked what was bothering him. Shun remarked he was amazed with mankind who sent humans to the moon. Ruriko mentioned to Shun that his father once said that everything was possible as long as one believes. Ruriko remembered that Shun hated his dad, so she apologized. Shun said bitterly that his father talked big but was the first one to give up. - Fei was in the three-seater side of the plane along with Reiko and Megumi. Fei told Reiko how she wanted to stay longer in the island because she brought a bathing suit, expecting to have a time for swimming. Reiko agreed with Fei, because she brought hers too. Megumi, who was reading, murmured that a bathing suit was a tool for seducing men (INDECENT!). -YS-11 suddenly agitated, so Shun checked on Megane. - The plane was out of control, so Megane cautioned everyone. A voice was heard, and it introduced himself (or itself) as Akuma Hakushaku (Count Devil). Akuma Hakushaku told them that he would take them to hell. The plane hurls toward the red cloud that forms an image an old person.(Episode title) Shun woke up asking who Akuma Hakushaku was. He noticed he had been sleeping on the lap of Miss Ochiai, who preferred to be called Keiko on private occasions. Shun asked where they were, and Keiko replied that Shirei had given them 6 hours free time in the island after the Apollo rescue mission. Shun took a wide look at the scenery and then to Keiko who was wearing a revealing bathing suit. Ruriko called Shun and asked who he was looking at. Shun looked at Ruriko, who was wearing two-piece bathing suit, and told her that her bathing suit was crazy. Ruriko slapped Shun and stomped away. Akuma Hakushaku was in a dark room with Reiji. On the table was a board with miniature Gate Keepers dolls on it. Akuma Hakushaku told Reiji that he successfully trapped the Gate Keepers with his psycho attack. Reiji sarcastically asked Akuma Hakushaku if it was really what he called "hell." Akuma Hakushaku was convinced that Reiji was human because he only believed at what he sees. Akuma Hakushaku moved the Shun doll near the Kaoru doll. - Kaoru told herself that she tried to look good in her bathing suit for Shun but he did not seem to notice it. Shun appeared from the tree and told Kaoru that she looked good in her bathing suit. Shun said that he liked her the first time he met her. Kaoru could not believe what she just heard and she started to blush. Shun grabbed Kaoru from her back and finally embraced her. Akuma Hakushaku moved another Shun doll to a Fei doll. - Fei was walking along a steep hill when she saw a tree that beared yellow fruits (mango tree? dunno...). Fei tried to reach the fruit to let others try it, however Shun called her that made her lose her balance. To Fei's rescue, Shun caught her by her waist and told her that he preferred if she would pick the fruit only for him. Akuma Hakushaku moves another Shun doll to a Reiko doll. - Reiko was sleeping in the shore while Shun was sheltering her with an umbrella. Reiko woke up and noticed Shun. Shun said Sleeping Beauty (actually he said Megami hime --- princess goddess?)has finally awakened. Akuma Hakushaku moves another Shun doll to a Megumi doll. - Megumi immersed herself in the water and talked (to herself) about how she thinks sea cucumbers are beautiful. She said that for others sea cucumbers were ugly, and that was why for her sea cucumbers were beautiful. Shun appeared beside her, also immersed in the water, and told her that he likes sea cucumbers also. Akuma Hakushaku moves another Shun doll to a Ruriko doll. - Inside the YS-11, Ruriko wrapped herself in a towel and thought of how Shun commented her bathing suit rudely. Shun appeared from the plane's door and apologized. Shun explained that what he really meant was he was crazy about her. Shun walked to Ruriko, removed the towel, and told her how beautiful she was. Akuma Hakushaku was constantly observing them and was enjoying the results he was getting. Akuma Hakushaku remarked that with a slight touch of emotion, human heart could be easily seduced. Reiji said he did not know what he was talking about because he threw his heart out. Akuma Hakushaku laughed at what Reiji just said, but Reiji asked him if that was the real time to laugh when he had not fooled Shun yet. Shun was walking along the island, tired and sleepy. He wondered why nobody was around and why he was not hearing even a chirping of a bird. Shun felt like he was in a floating dream. Keiko appeared and asked what was wrong. Shun asked where everybody was. Keiko pointed toward the shore. The girls called out for Shun and asked him to have fun with them. Shun knew something was wrong, so he called out for Bancho and Megane. - However, Bancho and Megane were also having their own dreams. Bancho was in a samurai costume, surrounded by Ruriko and Fei who were praising him that he was better than Shun. - Megane was surrounded by Kaoru and Reiko who pleaded him to turn them into cyborgs. Megane declared that converting humans into machines was an eternal dream for a man. - The girls were in white dresses and were dancing around Shun. The Shun, Bancho, and Megane dolls were turning into life in Akuma's table. Akuma laughed at what he was seeing. Back to Kaoru's dream, Shun and Kaoru were still embracing each other. Shun asked Kaoru what was wrong. Kaoru told him that they could not do it (?) yet because they were still in High School. Shun told her that she was the only one who he could depend on because others kept on losing arrows (Ruriko), flew out of nowhere (Fei, ep. 7), and the other one kept on talking while sleeping (Reiko / well, Megumi talks to herself). In Reiko's dream, Reiko was playing the piano by the shore. Shun appeared, wearing a tuxedo, and told Reiko that it was not the world she wanted to live in. Shun grabbed her Dazzling Melody pieces and threw it in the air. - A quick change in scenery. Shun came home from work, and it appeared that Reiko was his wife. Reiko served rice pudding on the table. Shun complained why Reiko was always serving pudding when he was not sick. Reiko told Shun that he should say he was thankful, and she would say that "You don't have to say that honey." Reiko continued that after supper she would make fake flowers or paper envelopes to support their budget. Reiko told Shun that that was the true happiness for her. Shun tapped the chopsticks to the bowl, waiting for Fei's cooking. Fei was about to serve her Stir Fried Beef with Green Pepper to Shun when she tripped because of the elevated edge. Shun caught Fei by the hand and told her that it was not good to waste what the vegetables and animals have given them. Fei remembered her brother in Shun. Shun asked where her brother was, and Fei replied that he was dead. Shun apologized. Fei told Shun that she wanted to marry her brother when she was young but he died. Shun comforted her and said that he would be her brother from then on. Fei was teary-eyed because of joy. Shun was following Megumi. Megumi noticed Shun and asked him why he was following her. Shun said he happened to go to same direction. Megumi was not stupid to believe that reason. Shun gave up and said that he could not stop thinking about Megumi. Megumi said that Shun must have been thinking that she was an ugly geek. Shun told Megumi that it was not true. Shun removed Megumi's glasses and inspected it. Shun noticed that the glasses were fake. Shun asked Megumiwhy she hid her beautiful eyes with glasses. Megumi took her glasses from Shun and wore them back. Shun stared at her eyes and told Megumi that he wanted to keep staring at them. Megumi was both blushed and shocked. Shun told Ruriko that he was glad to have met her again. Ruriko said she new that she was a sniveler back then. Shun apologized and confessed that she was his first love but he was too young. Shun regretted when they said farewell to each other. After saying it, Shun started to walk back, but Ruriko called him and said that she was also glad to have met him. Ruriko ran to Shun and fell to his embrace. Akuma Hakushaku, while observing his toys, commented on how frail the human heart was. - [Scenes] Kaoru and Shun have already married, Reiko and Shun in their cozy house, Fei and Shun surrounded with animals, and Megumi and Shun were happily reading books in the library. Ruriko killed an Invader, and Shun (actually Akuma) asked how she first opened her gate. - The normal scene changed into a rainy setting. <Flashback>Ruriko was running through the rain, carrying a wounded cat in her hands. That time, Ruriko must have been a first year student because she had a shorter hair. Ruriko knocked hard at the Sakaki Veterinary Clinic's door, but there was no answer.< End Flashback> (commercial break cut in, so let's assume Ruriko opened her gate and she healed the cat. ^_^). - Shun also asked the others how they opened their gate. [Kaoru] Kaoru was competing in a track and field meet. Kaoru's classmates were whispering to each other about how Kaoru always lose in a tournament and yet she got the scholarship. Kaoru was not deaf not to hear what they said, so she promised herself that she will try her best to win. The starting signal was given, Kaoru's competitor started running but Kaoru was left out. "No way!" (Maybe that was her last mistake) [Reiko] Ms. Ono told Reiko to focus assured her that her parents would come to her recital. Reiko thought that her piano had the ability to reconcile her parents. Reiko gave her best in that practice. (this was actually before Ruriko and Shun came to Reiko's house to interview her) [Fei] Fei clutched to the government officer and asked where he would be taking his brother and grandfather. The government officer just shoved Fei away along with her monkey. Fei pleaded but the officer had already taken her grandfather and brother far away, never to be seen again. [Megumi] Megumi recalled the Fukuoka incident. The scene switched into a black room where five Shuns were telling each of the girls that enduring hardships would not work and he suggested that they should just join him and be happy. The scene switches to a worn out place, this time Shun was the one surrounded by girls (with Miss Ochiai). The girls told Shun that he did not need to work hard and rather he should just have fun with them. They girls said that their gate power did not work against Invaders anymore and noted that Shun was a failure so he should quit already. Shun fell to the ground struggling to himself. Shun promised to himself that he would not give up like his father did. Akuma Hakushaku saw how Shun would not give in to his dream so he transported him to another dream. - The scene changed into a junkyard, the place where Shun and Ruriko usually played when they were young. A girl, told him to stop fighting and play with her forever. Shun asked the girl who she really was, and the girl replied that she was Ruriko Ikusawa---his childhood friend. Of course Shun did not forget his childhood friend, he just asked because he would not believe that the girl was really Ruriko. Shun yelled at the girl that she was not the real Ruriko because she was not sniveling! The unconcious Ruriko heard it in her dream, came into her senses, and slapped the unconscious Shun. Ruriko's slap had a domino effect to others so they all woke up. The Gate Keepers party found themselves back in the island. Ruriko asked what just happened, and then Akuma Hakushaku appeared floating in the sky. Shun yelled to Akuma Hakushaku what he had just done. Akuma Hakushaku replied that those were not illusions but desires that were sleeping in their minds. After Akuma Hakushaku gave the hint, he disappeared in the sky, laughing. Shun received an incoming signal from Miss Ochiai through his watch. They all look above to see the YS-11 in the sky. Shirei must have granted them a break in the island as all of them were wearing uniform navy blue bathing suits. Kaoru dove to the sea, Reiko was talking with Fei, and Megumi was still reading a book. Shun told Megane that it was too bad that those bathing suits were just a dream. Ruriko approached Shun and asked her why he called her sniveler. Shun ran from where he was sitting and apologized. Shun pleaded to be forgiven because the word "snivelling" woke them up. Ruriko ran after him and caught him by the waist. Shun was still apologizing. "GOMEN NASAI!!" |
| Episode 11: Stop
that Bullet Train! [General Machine introduced] [Brief summary] In 1963, a strange floating soldier appeared before a cargo ship that sailed in the middle of Bermuda Triangle. The drunken sailor who saw him was not half terrified, instead he asked, "Are you a soldier?" The strange floating soldier corrected him, "No, I am General!" After that the soldier landed his feet to the cargo ship, and started to release tentacles that wrapped the sailor and the cargo ship. The ship drowned in the ocean. Six years later, the cargo ship's remnance was seen floating near Japan. (Episode Title) The bullet train zoomed along Kyoto. Aboard the bullet train were Shun, Saemi, and their mother. Shun pointed a tower through the window to Saemi and told her that it was the Kyoto Tower. Saemi told him that he said the same thing when they passed there. Shun wondered, "Oh, I did?". Saemi told him that she wanted to go to Kyushu next time. Shun told Saemi not to be humble and that if he wins the lottery, he will take her to Kobe. Their mother, who handed Shun a cold orange, reminded them that she was the one who won their trip in the lottery. Shun tossed the cold orange in each of his hands, and finally passed it to Saemi. Saemi enjoyed the feeling of the cold orange when she neared it to her cheek. Meanwhile, in the AEGIS base, Shirei showed the seen cargo ship, Marine Sulfur Queen that had been lost in the Bermuda Triangle 6 years ago, to the Gate Keepers (minus Shun). The Gate Keepers asked how it arrived in Japan if it was from Bermuda Triangle. Shirei hypothesized that it had possibly crossed time and space. The AEGIS workers detected an electrical wave that tried to synchronize with their frequency. A strange wave was detected and was confirmed to be 5000 times stronger that the normal strange waves they had been receiving. On the screen appeared the soldier that destroyed the ship. Shirei was startled and introduced him as Kikai Shogun (General Machine). Shirei described that Kikai Shogun was one of the Invader Staffs that had the ability to fuse with machine, and he was one of the cause of the many disputes in Japan. Reiko remarked that Shirei had finally met an acquaintance (^_^;). Shirei asked Kikai Shogun how he passed through AEGIS' surveillance network but realized, before Kikai Shogun answered, that Kikai used the cargo ship. Kikai Shogun greeted them with a surprise. The screen changed to the scene of the bullet train, callsign: Hikari, then he told everyone that he would keep the train run faster than the speed of sound. Everyone became alarmed because technically, the bullet train would destroy the Tokyo Station terminal if it exceeded the speed of sound. Shun just got out of the toilet, amazed that it had a flush. Then Shun noticed paper cups near the door, so he took three as a souvenir from what he called "The Express of Dreams" (bullet train). Suddenly, the train operator's voice was heard all over the train, informing the passengers that they would arrive shortly in Nagoya, but the voice changed and said that the train would never stop to Nagoya again. Kikai Shogun had taken over the train and was planning to convert the train into a train of terror. Back in the AEGIS Base, Shirei asked the AEGIS Operators if they were able to send emergency controls. The operators informed Shirei that there was no signal so they had not. Shirei instructed the operators to inform everyone to evacuate all stations. Miss Ochiai reported a bad news to Shirei. According to Miss Ochiai's report, Shun Ukiya happened to be one of the passengers of the bullet train, Hikari. The Gate Keepers were shocked to hear this. Kazuko Ukiya and Saemi were waiting for Shun in their seats when the other passengers started to panic. Every passengers panicked at the thought that the brake was malfunctioning. Just outside the bullet train was Scouting Helicopter 301. It was monitoring the bullet train's transformation. However, a hand appeared from the transformed train and clawed the scouting helicopter. The helicopter operator sent his feedback to Shirei that he was unable to chase the bullet train anymore. Miss Ochiai informed Shirei that the GateKeepers have already arrived at Tokyo Station. In Tokyo railways, the Gatekeepers were preparing for the bullet train's arrival. The railway opened a portion and revealed a steam locomotive from the underground. Reiko commented that it was old fashioned, while Megumi admired it for is classic look. Ruriko asked Megane (who was inside the steam locomotive) if they were really going to use the steam locomotive against the bullet train. Megane told them never to underestimate the Electric Locomotive BB9004 as it had a speed record of 331 km/h. Megane informed them that AEGIS France lent it to them. Bancho appeared inside the steam train window and pressed a switch in his hand that revealed the Gate Engine behind the train's open compartment. Shirei got the information from the helicopter operator that only the front car combined with Kikai Shogun. Shirei had thought of a plan already. Shirei assigned Kaoru to slow the train with her Close Combat ability, while Fei would use her Gate of Red Heat to cut the connector between the front car and the passenger cars. Based on speed and geographical features, Shirei chose the Tama River as the interception point. Shun tried calling AEGIS, but there was no signal. Kikai Shogun appeared and handed over his 'gift' to him which happened to be 2 Invader robots. Kikai Shogun introduced himself to Shun and told him to come to the power car if he wanted to stop the train. AEGIS party prepared a fuse along the railway while the GateKeepers party prepared the steam train. Ruriko took the lead in the absence of Shun. Ruriko asked everyone how they were doing - Megumi sulks in the corner about why Ruriko had to order them around. Bancho was connecting two wires, but Fei warned him that negative opposes each other. Bancho had already connected the wires, he was burned and said that he was Gate Super so he was not good at tricky things. Fei praised Bancho and remarked that he was immortal. Ruriko noticed Kaoru who was excercising hard while thinking of Shun. The robots surrounded Shun while computing that their winning probability was 81.6%. Shun took out his wooden sword but the robots read his movements in advance and took his sword away. After taking away his wooden sword, the robots computed that their winning probability had increased to 98% as they have sealed his Ultra Whirlwind Slash attack. Shun realized that they have been reading his fighting style. Kaoru stood on the Gate Engine as she waited for the train. The train would arrive shortly in 5 minutes and 32 seconds. Shun, having no weapons in his hand, thought of an innovative way to beat the robots. Shun picked up two metal thingies (I can't figure what it is), and then attacked with his 'whatever-move' - Double Ultra Slash! The robots had not read that new move - so they definitely lost! Shun opened the door to the front car. As Shun entered, he noticed that the front car did not look like what it was supposed to look like. The front car was terrible, full of ugly wires entangled to each otehr. Suddenly, metal wirings wrapped Shun up. Shun complained to Kikai Shogun that he was unfair that he did not show himself to him. Kikai Shogun showed his face and said that the front car was him. As the train was nearing, Kaoru started opening her gate. Ruriko commanded everyone to start the mission. Kaoru shouted the name of Shun as she pushed the train. Megane started the steam train alongside Hikari as Fei unleashed her red heat to the train connector. The heat of her Fire Panda melted the connector and separated the passenger cars. Reiko talked nonsense that her Dazzling Melody would now destroy the enemy, then as she was about to play, the front car had passed already (this always happens!). Kikai Shogun had not have the chance to hear Reiko-chan's wonderful music! Ruriko asked Megane if they could catch up with the bullet train, but Megane told Ruriko that was all the steam train can do. The power connection of the Gate Engine to the steam train was removed as Kaoru was being pushed back by the front car. Even without the Gate Engine's power, Kaoru was amazingly retaining the amplified power. Shirei took out something that looked like a bomb box (possibly a thing that's connected to the fuse setup by the AEGIS Party) as he watched the failure of Kaoru to stop the train. Kikai Shogun asked Shun where he wanted to die — either inside the train or in Tokyo Station. A sharp metal was pointing at Shun, ready to jab him, but Kaoru yelled at Kikai that he would not let Shun die in her presence. Kikai Shogum told her that she would not be able to do anything since the Gate Engine was now useless. Kaoru disagreed and told Kikai Shogun that she had learned something from Shun and that was not to give up. Kaoru punched the front car, but the front car's claw pushed her back to the Gate Engine. Kikai told Shun that he would kill Kaoru first. Shun yelled Kikai Shogun's name and Kikai Shogun faced Shun. Shun opened his gate and threw a paper cup to Kikai Shogun. The paper cup fastly slashed through Kikai's left cheek. Green ooze spilled from Kikai Shogun's cheek. The paper cup made a diagonal mark in his left cheek, which completed an X-mark since Kikai Shogun had a diagonal mark before. Shun asked Kaoru if she was all right. Kaoru told Shun she was fine and asked him if he was injured. Shun went near the window and showed her that he was also fine. Inertia pushed Shun back, and then Kikai Shogun reappeared and told him that there had been few humans who had hurt him and they were all sent to hell by him. Kikai Shogun disappeared to the sky and the front car changed back to normal. Kaoru pushed the front car and Shun helped her by pulling a lever down. The train finally stopped. Shirei released his breath as he cancelled pushing the switch of the bomb box. Miss Ochiai smiled and told Shirei that she would prepare a special coffee for him. In Tokyo Station, Kaoru ran to Shun and hugged him. Saemi, with Kazuko, appeared and asked Shun if Kaoru was her girlfriend. Kazuko told Saemi not to be nosy while patting her head. Kazuko continued that there had been a lot of thrills that happened for a lottery prize. Kaoru introduced herself to Kazuko. Kazuko told Kaoru that she was a pretty girl. Kaoru was flattered at what Shun's mother had said, and quickly clutched Shun's arm. Saemi was still fixing her hair that was ruined by her mother's patting. Shun gave a paper cup to Saemi and told her that she could show it to her classmates. Shun saw Ruriko who was organizing the crowd in Tokyo Station. Shun asked Ruriko if she wanted his last paper cup that came from the "Express of Dreams". Ruriko smiled but looked away from him ("Hmmph!"). Kaoru was still clutching to Shun's arm (that's why). Shirei told Miss Ochiai that Akuma Hakushaku had appeared the other day, now it was Kikai Shogun. Shirei stated that Invader executives had never appeared to one country so much as they did in other countries. Miss Ochiai asked Shirei what would be happening to Japan now. Shirei had no idea. |
| Episode 12:
Fly to the Northern Land [Yukino Houjou introduced] [Brief summary] A YS-11 aircraft that had the logo of AEGIS was zooming along the mountain ranges. Without fear, the AEGIS Soldiers that were aboard prepared their guns. All of a sudden, the YS-11's door opened and grayish black monsters that looked like bats infiltrated the plane. YS-11 crashed to the mountains. It happened in the mountains near the flower field. (Episode Title) Ruriko and Shun were on a mission to find the missing cargo plane. Despite their mission, Shun was acting like a child on a field trip. Shun rested on the flowery field and gazed his eyes to the flying butterflies. Ruriko thought why only two of them were assigned in the mission, but she blushed at the thought. Ruriko warned Shun not to rest on the flowers, and smiled when she saw something. Shun was trying to catch the butterfly but it flew away. Ruriko enjoyed the view of the flowerfield until she spotted the bat-like enemies. The monsters went for Ruriko but Shun alertly pulled her away. While running, Ruriko warned Shun not to step on the flowers but Shun told her to talk about it later. When they were both far enough from the monsters, they prepared to open their gates. Suddenly snow filled the flowery field. A girl appeared from nowhere and revealed a power. The girl freezed the enemies without any hard work. The girl said that she would not allow anyone to harm the Iwatsumesou flowers (seemingly the flowers in the field). Ruriko and Shun thanked the girl and asked who she was. The girl did not answer. Shun and Ruriko told the girl that she must be a Gate Keeper, and the girl only asked back what a Gate Keeper was. Shun and Ruriko explained the meaning of a Gate Keeper. The girl said that because of her power she had always been alone forever. A white long creature appeared under Shun and climbed to the girl. The girl restated that Hisame (the creature) was her only companion. Ruriko asked the girl who her parents were but the girl did not answer, instead she said that she wanted to be a bird. The girl continued that she cannot fly unless she was a bird. Ruriko asked her name but the girl continued speaking of her confusing deep thoughts. The girl said that she could not be a bird but she could fly anywhere but still nowhere. Ruriko and Shun invited the girl to come with them because it may be dangerous if the Invaders appeared out somewhere. The girl said she would fight. Shun told the girl that she was too young to fight. The girl continued to speak that she did not want to see anymore wars so she would fight with her own hands. Ruriko decided to contact Shirei and as she opened her communicating wristwatch, the snow turned into a blizzard. Shun followed the girl but he slipped out somewhere. Shun called Ruriko as he was being blown away. Ruriko lied in the snow. Ruriko woke up and called Shun. Ruriko saw her wristwatch, distances away from her. Ruriko crawled through the thick snow and picked her wristwatch. Ruriko tried making a contact but there was no signal. Meanwhile, Shun was in an ice cave. Shun called Ruriko. Shun realized that he was trapped in an ice cave. Shun noticed that the ice was not ice because it was not cold. Hisame appeared and jumped to Shun. Shun asked Hisame where the girl was. The girl just appeared from Shun's behind and called Hisame. As Shun walked near the girl, the girl disappeared and reappeared at his back. Shun was amazed and asked the girl if she could also teleport with her gate power. Shun introduced himself to the girl, expecting the girl to introduce herself back. But the girl said that she was herself. Shun wondered how they both got in a weird place. The girl told him that the place they were was outside the flow. Shun stupidly asked if the girl meant "river flow." The girl said she hated to talk. Shun apologized and asaid that he had to find a way out. Shun needed to get out because Ruriko might be worried. Shun told a story to the girl. When Shun and Ruriko were young they used to play hide and seek. Whenever Ruriko could not find Shun she always cried. After telling a little story, Shun said that he must find Ruriko. The girl told Shun that there was no way out and even said that even if he believed everything would disappear. Ruriko was still calling out for Shun. Shun asked the girl why she hated talking. The girl recited in a verse (as she always did), "When you learn that the world is hollow that is the time when sadness in you increases." Shun asked if what she just said was Tanka poetry. Shun remarked that old literature gave him the chills (demonstrated shivering action) and made him drowsy (demonstrated falling down). The girl continued that everything would disappear: people, words, and feelings. Shun was still finding a way out until then he saw his reflection on every ice walls. The girl said there was no where to go. Ruriko continued calling Shun but still no sign of him. While walking, Ruriko fell into the soft and crumbly snow. Ruriko tried to climb up but only slipped. Ruriko desperately called Shun. Shun tried to open his gate but his gate would not open (he was outside time and space flow I guess). Shun asked the girl if she was always inside the ice cave and also asked her how she got to Mt. Daisetsu and opened such a powerful gate. The girl did not answer and she only tucked Hisame in her lap. Shun pleaded to the girl that it was important for him to know about her. Hisame climbed to Shun's shoulder, and the girl looked at Shun. Shun promised Hisame and the girl that he would get them out. Shun would also find a way out because Ruriko was waiting. The girl said that she would not hope for anything because hopes were like dreams. Shun did not understand her and regreted the fact that he did not pay attention in literature class. The girl continued, that Shun and Ruriko would both disappear someday. Shun told the girl that "now" was more important that "someday." They both exist because they both see each other in their own eyes. The girl told Shun that he was not someone who should be allowed in the ice cave. The girl asked Shun with glaring eyes how he got there. Ruriko wondered how it was possible for a snow to show up in mid-summer. A dying butterfly flew towards Ruriko. Ruriko caught the butterfly in her hand. An idea came to Ruriko on how she could find Shun. Shun told the girl that they are still existing because they did not disappear at that moment. The girl told Shun that he coud not and would not understand. The girl narrated in verse that she had waited and believed all her life. The girl recalled her past. A man, taller and maybe older than the girl, had to be separated from the girl (note: the flower in the girl's head was given to her by this man). The man bade goodbye to the girl because he had to fight in a war. The girl waited for the man but he never came back because he died. "To wait, and wait and wait. To believe and believe and believe. Forget thee not for the reason that I live is for the day when my baby, my child comes home to me. Yonder to the north where geese sing their song to their number but now is less that which they came those who do not return travels to the house where the dead once lived"The girl had always been alone since then (Hisame was her only companion) so she always hoped to be a bird. Shun gave his thoughtful reply, "You could be, but not in this cage." Ruriko opened her Gate of Life, healing the butterfly and bringing back the snowy field to normal. Suddenly, the ice cave trembled. Shun took the girl with her and opened his gate. The ice cave broke into huge pieces. - After that, Shun was left alone in the field. Shun called Ruriko until he saw her resting in a boulder. The butterfly flew gracefully around Ruriko. Ruriko was thankful that the butterfly could fly again. Ruriko saw Shun who walked towards her. Ruriko asked where the girl was. Shun told Ruriko that the girl was just with him but she disappeared. "PIKI!", Hisame's sound made Shun and Ruriko frightened. The girl also appeared and she thanked Ruriko for bringing everything back to life. The girl finally introduced herself as Yukino Houjo, when Ruriko asked for her name. Ruriko also introduced herself and Shun who had introduced himself in the cave was glad that the Yukino finally said her name. Yukino pointed to the direction of a "creature" she called cold bird. Ruriko realized that Yukino meant the plane. Ruriko and Shun went by the cliff and saw the crashed plane. Ruriko made a contact to AEGIS through her watch (that was finally working) and reported the plane's location. Shun turned back to thank Yukino but she was already gone. Prepared deathbeds were seen. Ruriko and Shun walked towards the deathbeds and saluted to the honorable soldiers who died. Ruriko and Shun voiced out their thanks to Yukino. Yukino heard them from a distance. With a faint smile, she whispered to herself, "Gate Keepers...same ability as mine..." |
