"Which of these outfits do you think will suit me for the party?" Botan asked her roommate, Hinageshi, holding a sweater and jeans in her left hand, and a pink shirt and trouser in her right. She had been trying to decide for the last hour.
Hinageshi lifted her face from a book she was reading, a bored expression on her face. "Botan-san, you've been trying to choose the right clothes since morning!" she commented.
The blue haired deity sighed, realizing what her friend said was true. "Well, I want to look good at the party."
"Then I suggest you wear my blouse. It's pink and has beautiful flower patterns on it. Perfect for attracting someone's attention." Hinageshi said, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
Botan 's expression lit up, but only for a while. "Hey, what do you mean 'perfect for attracting someone's attention'?" she snapped.
Hinageshi giggled and said, "I know you want to get someone's attention. He must be your date at the party."
Blushing, she shook her head quickly. "Iie! Hinageshi-san! I don't have a date! This is suppose to be a party, not a candlelight dinner or something!" she denied vehemently, her hands reaching for the cup of coffee she had just made.
Her companion's look changed from bright to thoughtful. "You're supposed to have a date, Botan-san. Everyone there will have one."
"Including you?" Botan slipped in, a meaningful smile on her lips.
Hinageshi could feel herself blushing. "Nan-nani!? What are you talking about?" she cried it so loud that it made Botan fall out of her chair. Rubbing her back, she replied, "Don't try to hide it, Hinageshi-chan. I saw Ryohi-san from the Reikai Senshi with you yesterday."
Hinageshi's face became redder. "Well...w-we were just discussing about something... yes... about the escaped soul from Lot 13..." she stammered while defending herself.
Botan pretended to be thoughtful. "Hmm, discussing about business in the royal park... sounds interesting..."
Hinageshi let out a sigh, knowing she couldn't hide the fact anymore. "Okay... okay...Ryohi-san... well... he invited me to go with him, you know, to the party you've been planning. What choice do I have other than to accept? He is so calm and ... well... cool... I just couldn't help it!"
Botan grinned cheerfully. "Now I understand why you wanted to go so much." she said as she sipped the coffee.
"Okay, back to the last topic..."
'Ryohi-san?" Botan cut in.
"No! The need of having a date matter!" Hinageshi snapped.
Botan rolled her eyes.
"You know that everyone attending the party are couples, like Yuusuke and Keiko, Kuwabara and Yukina, Shizuru and Sakio, Hiei and Hotaru-"
"Hiei and Hotaru?????!! Hey, are you kidding me?"
"Yup! Yuusuke-kun told me that Hotaru nagged Hiei to bring her with him."
"That doesn't mean they're couple. I thought Mukuro..."
"I don't know, maybe there's a conflict between those three..."
"..."
"Okay, me and Ryohi will be coming, along with Koenma-sama and Ayame.."
Prrsshhh!!!
Coffee was sprayed onto Hinageshi's clean kimono. It was done by no one else but Botan.
"Botan-san!!!" Hinageshi shrieked, her eyes bulging out at the sight of her kimono.
Botan gasped at what she had done to Hinageshi's kimono and quickly apologized. "Gomen ne! Hinageshi-san! I'll get a towel..." With that, she hurried to the toilet beside the sliding door. She came out with a towel in her hand. "Here it is..." she said, giving the wet towel to Hinageshi.
Botan kicked her self mentally. ::Bakayaro!! This is the second time you've you've sprayed people with your drink after hearing about Koenma. What's wrong with you, Botan????"::
Wiping her kimono, Hinageshi asked, "What surprised you so much that it made you gag on your drink, Botan-san?"
Botan smiled rather apologetically, and shook her head. "Iie... I just had to cough suddenly, that's why..." she lied, feeling guilty at the same time. She didn't know why she was lying, but she was already doing it. She hesitated, then continued to ask the question on her mind anyway. "Hmm... so Koenma is going with Ayame?"
Hinageshi nodded, a wide smile glued on her face. "Yup! I think you have succeeded in coupling them. Omedetou, Botan-san!" she congratulated her friend. Botan was dumfounded for a moment until she remembered that she was the one who tried to pair Koenma-sama and Ayame.
"Don't worry, Ayame won't say a single thing about the party being for him too, not only for Keiko and Yukina," Hinageshi comforted Botan, after spotting a hint of disappointment in Botan's eyes.
She really did misinterpret it.
======
"Which one is a better flavour, chocolate, strawberry, orange or vanilla?" Urameshi asked his companions. They were Kuwabara, Yukina, Kurama, Shizuru, Atsuko and surprisingly, Hiei, who was also there to join the soon-to-be-chaos.
Kuwabara quickly stepped forward and peered through the glass at the display of lovely birthday cakes. He pointed to one cake.
"Orange would be perfect." he suggested.
Within a second, Hiei was beside him. Rolling his eyes, he said, "Chocolate."
His full-time enemy glared at him as if looks could kill. But as usual, that didn't work for Hiei.
"Orange."
"Chocolate."
"I said orange!"
"Do I look like I care? Chocolate is better."
"Who would want to listen to you, durian-hair?"
"What about you? I bet an ant would lose its way and die after it got into your hair, carrot-head,"
"How dare you! do you want to fight?"
"If you want to."
"But...Hiei-san, Kazuma-kun... don't you think vanilla is better?"
The two rivals turned to the sweet koorime with her puppy eyes as if ready to cry. They immediately pulled back from their fighting stance.
Kurama sweatdropped, then nodded. "I agree, perhaps both Keiko and Koenma would love them too."
Yuusuke grinned and dug into his pocket. Paying for the cakes, he smiled at himself. He felt weird doing that, but he just couldn't hide it. He actually enjoyed doing things like this. And what surprised him most was he didn't mind spending money on this party at all. He guessed that the excitement of seeing Keiko's surprised face far surpassed his stinginess.
Suddenly Kuwabara pulled at him hard. Whispering, Kuwabara said, "Don't you feel it's kind of dangerous by bringing Yukina along? She may find out that the party is also for her!"
Yuusuke was still looking calm. "Nah, she won't find out. You know how childish she is."
Kuwabara relaxed after hearing Yuusuke's words. Everyone knew he wanted the best for Yukina.
"Oooii!! Kazuma! Take a look at this beautiful carrot-shaped balloon!" The voice of Shizuru filled the air.
Kazuma frowned and began walking slowly towards the others. "This is going to be a long day..." he muttered to himself.
======
Reikai seemed busier that day. Oni's running around, papers flying about, voices and shrieks filled the air. This was, of course, because of the Prince of Reikai, Enma, took a sudden holiday. Among them was Ayame, who was looking around worriedly. She was apparently looking for someone.
Finally, she spotted George running in a nearby corridor and hurried towards him. "George, have you seen Botan?" she asked.
George stopped just in time to avoid bumping into the dark-haired ferry girl. He stuck his head out from the mountain of documents he carried.
"Don't you know? Botan-san is on a holiday!" he answered.
Ayame shook her head. "Yes, I know. What I meant is do you know where she is now? You do know about the surprise party for Koenma-sama, right?"
George nodded. "Of course! Everyone in Reikai is talking about it. I bet it is going to be a wonderful one. I hope Koenma-sama will be in a better mood after the party." he winked.
Ayame chuckled softly.
"By the way, Botan told me that she was going to the Shinsu Theme Park." George said.
"Shinsu Theme Park? Where is that?" Ayame asked.
"Hmm, let me think..." he looked up as if there was an answer up there. His face lit up after a minute. "Oh hai! It is located at Mushiyori. The district of Mushiyori. Hai, that's the place." he repeated to make sure of it himself.
Ayame was surprised. ::Mushiyori? Isn't that the place Koenma-sama went?::
Looking up from her pondering, Ayame asked George. "Hmm, does Koenma-sama know about this?"
George shrugged. "I don't know, but I think Botan must have told him."
"Oh..."
"Ayame-san, have you prepared for the party, I mean, clothes or what so ever?" The question suddenly popped out of George's mouth.
Startled, Ayame looked at Saotome, then giggled nervously. "Oh! I almost forgot about the party. Gomen ne!"
"Make sure you look more beautiful than usual, Ayame-san, as you'll become Koenma-sama's partner in the party." George teased his friend.
Ayame 's face turned to crimson red. "George!" she cried, before turning away.
"Why is your face so red, Ayame-san...." George continued his teasing causing Ayame to quicken her pace.
Reaching a corner, Ayame stopped and leaned against the wall.
She covered her face, and found that it was warm.
Her eyes stared at the empty air for a while, her mind wondering... why...
