Prom Night

Koenma sat at his desk. The paper work seemed endless. He ran his fingers through his dark brown hair and sighed.
*The work will never end,* he thought.
There was a knock at the door. He sat up straight to appear business-like and said seriously, "Come in."
Botan entered smiling, carrying a sky blue envelope. Koenma's heart quickened. He always felt awkward around her. Her beauty made him blush. But he couldn't let her see that. "Yes, Botan?"
She giggled a bit and slid the envelope across his desk. He opened it and pulled out an invitation. "Yusuke is inviting us to a dance?" he said after reading the letter.
Botan shook her head. "Not just a dance. It's called a prom. Apparently Humans really like this dance. We're invited along with Kurama and Hiei."
Koenma thought for a moment. "When does this prom take place?"
Botan sighed. "Well... tonight, actually."
Koenma raised his eyebrows and let out a sigh that seemed as though it would never end. "I have lots of work to do," he said. Botan's heart sank. Koenma saw the sad expression on her face. "But I could use a break. So I'll see you at about 7:30 here and we can... um... go together." He lowered his head trying to hide his cherry red face.
Botan giggled inspite of herself and nodded. "Alright, 7:30 then." She gave him one final glance and left.
As soon as she had left, Koenmas jumped to his feet and started to pace. "Oh, man, what am I going to do?" he mumbled to himself. "How do you dress for a Human's prom?" The only thing he could think of was to ask Yusuke.
When he arrived at Yusuke's house, laughter could be heard from within. He hesitated and knocked on the door. It was answered by Kuwabara.
"Oh, Koenma, what brings you here?" asked Kurama looking over Kuwabara's shoulder.
Koenma scratched his head and turned into his teenage form. "I need help," he said.
Yusuke laughed. "The almighty Koenma needs help?"
Kurama gave him a stern look and Yusuke's laughter stopped. "Come on in, Koenma."
Botan sat in midair on her oarthinking. "So Koenma wants to go with me. What am I going to wear? What about my hair?" There was only one solution. Keiko.
It was starting to get late. Koenma looked at his watch. 7:35 pm. He tapped his foot nervously. Where was she? He looked at himself in the mirror. He was in his teenage form. The guys dressed him in a black tuxedo with a red bow tie. His hair was slicked back with gel and his pacifier was in his breast pocket. There was a knock at the door. Koenma checked the mirror ne last time before answering.
He was stunned by what he saw. There stood Botan in a black, spaghetti strapped dress with long, black fingerless gloves that went to her elbow. Her lavender eyes sparkled with happiness. Her sky blue hair was pulled back in its usual pony tail, but was decorated with white rose buds.
She was beautiful. No... That wasn't the right word. There was no word that could describe the way she looked. She blushed and Koenma realized he was staring. "Shall we go?" she asked. Koenma simply nodded. still mesmorized by her beauty.
Botan summoned her oar and mounted. Koenma shut the door and sat behind her and gently put his arms around her waist. She blushed slightly and they were off.
When they arrived at the school, Yusuke and the gang were waiting by the door. They were all dressed in their finest. Even Hiei, although he seemed to be the most annoyed out of all of them. "Well now that we're all here, shall we dance?" said Yusuke opening the door.
Koenma and Hiei sat in a corner while the others enjoyed themselves on the dance floor. Koenma sat staring at Botan. She was smiling and laughing. The disco lights danced across her face. "Wow," he whispered to himself in amazement.
"Alright, people," said the DJ. "This next song is for couples, and couples only."
Everyone started paring up. Even Hiei had someone to dance with. Koenma leaned back in his chair and rubbed his eyes. "Koenma?" Botan's soft voice brought him back to reality. He sat up straight and looked up at her.
His soft hazel eyes made her weak in the knees. "May I have this dance?" she asked extending her gloved hand. Koenma's jaw dropped slightly as he took her hand and walked onto the dance floor. Botan slowly put her arms around his neck. Her cheeks turned a deep shade red as he pulled her close. She kept her head down to avoid his gaze and to hide her red cheeks.
Koenma gently grasped her chin and tipped her face up toward his. "You're beautiful," he whispered. She smiled and blushed an even deeper shade of red. "Thank you," she said looking away. Koenma reached over and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She raised her head to look at him and his lips brushed hers. She gasped and pulled away slightly. But Koenma pulled her closer.
The song came to an end and so did the dance. But they still stood there in each others arms, inches away from each other. "It's time to go. home," Botan said with a sad tone and a smile on her face. Koenma nodded in agreement but he wasn't ready to let her go. "Botan," he said. "I..." Kuwabara and Yusuke ruffled Koenma's hair ruining the moment. Botan removed her hands and walked over to Keiko.
Koenma kept his gaze fixed on her. She glanced over her shoulder at him and smiled. "So what do you say, fellas, a night over at my house," said Yusuke. Koenma turned to him. "I'm sorry I can't," he said. "But thank you for inviting me." Yusuke smiled and patted him on the back. "Hey it was my pleasure, and you can keep the suit."
He smiled and nodded to the others. "Farewell," he said over his shoulder. She turned and looked at him. "Would you like to take a walk?" Botan looking into his dark brown eyes. "Sure." She looked at Keiko. Keiko smiled and waved her off as if to say 'go ahead.'
The night air was cold, but the stars shined warmly upon them. Botan shivered and looked at the enchanting moon. She jumped as she felt Koenma place his jacket over her cold shoulders and pull her closer as they walked. The branches were laced with beautiful wysteria blossoms. "I had a really nice time tonight," he said stroking her cheek. "So did I." Koenma placed both hands on her shoulders and gazed into her lavender eyes. The light of the moon made her glow. She was like an angel. The white roses in her hair sparkled like diamonds.
Koenma leaned closer to her. His warm breath was on her lips. "Botan," he whsipered. "I love you." Botan stepped back, stunned by his words. "I love you, too," she finally answered resting her head on his chest. He gently stroked her cheek and tipped her face towards his.
They're lips met and it seemed as if time had stopped. Everything was perfect. The smell of the blossoms around them, the light of the moon. Some could have sworn that the moon cried tears of joy that night. And it seemed to shine brighter as it peered down upon the young lovers.
