About 'in a nutshell'
I began this site on June 28, 1999, when I was still a "newbie" (read: a few months old) to the YYH fandom. Back then there was one major ML, which I think was called the yyhml (no, not the non-yaoi one we have today), and which was run on what seemed like its own server. (no E-groups, no ads!) In that ML was gathered several big YYH fans who used to be well-known through out the fandom. It was here that I learned about the *real* YYH, even though I'd gone into lurking. It was also on this ML that I was introduced to Koenma and Botan fanfics. Tasukimi's one-shot, Oboette Imasu, was the first fic I ever read, and it was the fic that got me addicted to K/B.
During those times, there were no Koenma and Botan sites whatsoever. I spent hours and hours searching for fics about them and came up with hardly anything. I decided then to make a fanfic archive so that other K/B fans would never have to go through what I went through. With the support and encouragement of some friends (especially Ryoma), I got the handful of K/B fics I'd found and put them together into a simple and plain site. Thus, 'in a nutshell' was born.
I chose "in a nutshell" as the name of my site because that's what it was for: Koenma and Botan fanfics in a nutshell. It began with around five fanfics, and as the months passed, I painstakingly began accumulating more and more until it reached to the size it is now. At present, there are quite a few fanfics, and K/B readers can thus afford to be a little choosy. Is this an accomplishment of my objective? In a sense, yes. Koenma and Botan fans no longer have the problem of finding K/B fanfics; their only dilemma is choosing which ones to read. Now my site's goal has changed from just providing fanfics to making the type of K/B fanfics people want easier to find.
It was fun, being there as the Koenma and Botan fandom grew in fanfics and in sites. I saw the rise of the first Koenma and Botan shrine, which seemed a miracle and a blessing for K/B fans everywhere. From that moment on, it became a team effort to find Koenma and Botan fanfics floating around the internet, which was a welcome change. A little bit later, another K/B shrine rose, and recently, another has popped up. The Koenma and Botan fandom continues to grow. It's wonderful to see.
With all the K/B fansites now who also have fanfic archives, one would think my site is obsolete and limited. I've thought that myself, at times. In the end, I've learned that I don't need to expand this fanfic archive into another Koenma and Botan shrine to compete. This site's uniqueness is in being a fanfic archive, which I run, operate and update in my own special way. It's the way I've always run it. Some may appreciate the difference. Others may not even notice. Nevertheless, this site still stands, and I'll run it for as long as I can because it has become a part of my life.
Along the way, I've met several Koenma and Botan fans, and among them, I've made a few friends who I keep to this day. Some of them include ARaZhi, Misty and most importantly, Reiko-chan. At other times, I've gotten to know a little bit about some of the Koenma and Botan writer's whose fics I host. Perhaps that's another reason why I can't abandon this site: it's helped me meet so many great people.
This is the story of 'in a nutshell'. I hope you like this site. ^_^
